Vertigo Games In Memory Of Arthur Houtman

In Memory Of Arthur Houtman

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that our friend and colleague Arthur Houtman, has suddenly passed away, on Thursday the 28th of July.

As the co-founder of Vanguard Games and Force Field and the MD of Vertigo Studios Amsterdam, Arthur was the driving force of Vertigo Studios Amsterdam for almost 15 years. He was instrumental in transforming the studio from its humble indie beginnings, into the solid studio that it is today. Even when he had already reached the age of retirement, Arthur was committed to seeing the studio grow through a new phase when it was acquired by Vertigo Games (part of Koch Media and the Embracer Group) last year. It feels extremely unfair that he did not get the chance to round off this final step and go and enjoy a well-deserved retirement after all the hard work he dedicated to our company.

Arthur will be remembered as a straight shooter who never minced words, but he was always honest and focused on the end result. Above all, he was a humble, generous and kind man and a source of advice for anyone who wanted to benefit from his 30 years working in the world of video games.

He will be sorely missed by all of us at Vertigo Games, but our loss pales in comparison to that of his wife Bridget and his son Arno, as well as all his close relatives and friends. Our thoughts are with them in these difficult times and we are committed to supporting them where we can, both now and in the future.

Please direct any condolences or memories that you would like to share here.
